The Dallas Mavericks star duo of Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic demonstrated a subpar performance against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday.
The Mavericks lost the game by a low-scoring thriller of 106-113 at the Smoothie King Center, which marked it as the third defeat in the last five games. Previously, the arrival of Kyrie indicated some revolutionary changes in the franchise’s outcomes.
However, with the last defeat, the fans became overnight critics once again, and the Mavericks’ star didn’t set out to absorb those anymore.
What did Kyrie Irving say to the criticism?
The 30-year-old became annoyed after getting undeserving criticism and said on Twitch, “You’ve seen me for three hours, and you think you know who I am. You see a few posts saying, ‘Oh, Kai is awake.” Kai got it: All from seeing me for three hours.”
“Gambling and sports betting have taken the purity and fun away from the game at times. I’m gonna just be honest with y’all. Work is work, but the support around it can be a distraction,” Irving concluded.
It’s true that the eight-time all-star has had some downturns in his career, the most recent being his anti-Semitic tweet. Even later, he showed reluctance to make an apology statement and got suspended for that.
There had been some grudge built up around him for the past several years as the Little Mountain got into a scuffle with the coach and management, which led him to leave the organization after four years. However, the controversy doesn’t seem to be leaving him, even though he sets his eye on the higher road now.
Kyrie has scored, on average, 27.1 points with 5.3 assists and 5.1 rebounds in 40 appearances this season so far, which was amid one of the off-court rough patches in his life.
Let’s see if the Mavericks can bounce back from this sudden setback, as the franchise is the sixth seed in the Western Conference.
