Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal throws shade at current NBA players with bold statement

The former Lakers Center Shaquille O’Neal is known to maintain an active presence on social media. He usually does not shy away from sharing his thoughts and opinions on popular social platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. This habit along with his many other ventures has led to him becoming one of the most influential people on social media.

It seems that this habit of Shaq has caused a bit of controversy this time. Known by the name ‘Big Shamrock’ during his heyday, a player to match the massive stature of Shaq is a rare find even today.

Shaq mocks modern NBA players

In his recent post on Instagram, Shaquille O’Neal was seen mocking the current NBA players. Shaq posted a reel that featured a montage of the days when he used to be a player in the NBA. He was seen dunking and dribbling past a defender easily in a 1v1 situation. Well, that should not be a surprise given Shaq’s massive build, but the caption that went along with the reel seemed like a jab at the current generation of players playing in the NBA.

The caption on his reel read “Y’all lucky I’m not playing in this era. #luckyashell “. This statement indicated that Shaquille O’Neal has some interesting views on the current players in the NBA. Along with what the contents of the reel were it looked very clear that Shaq was mocking the current generation of their inability when it comes to dealing with big players.

There are not many giants in the NBA as Shaq in the current time, so Shaq probably thinks he would be a problem to the current players if he played in this era.

How long has Shaq played for the Lakers?

Shaquille O’Neal signed for the Lakers in the summer of 1996 and remained there till 2004. He has played a total of eight seasons with the Lakers and won consecutive NBA championships in the years 2000, 2001, and 2002. He earned the title of the NBA Finals MVP in all of these seasons. He also won the 2000s NBA Most Valuable Player award.
