In every year’s transfer window, we see many players leaving their teams to join someone else. Sometimes this causes former teammates to go against each other, straining their relationship. Former England captain David Beckham also got into a feud with one of his teammates after he changed clubs.
David Beckham is a well-known player. He has incredible game sense, and his looks have also made him a famous icon in the modeling world as well. The English Hall of Famer, who exposed his wife in his recent documentary, had a falling out with his teammate Donovan Landon after he decided to stay at his new club for an extra season.
Beckham-Donovan feud: Explained
David Beckham has played for many great clubs. Before hanging up his boots in 2013, the English international was a part of Manchester United, PSG, Real Madrid, and AC Milan. David Beckham’s transfer to AC Milan caused bitterness in his relationship with Landon Donovan. In 2007, Beckham left Real Madrid and joined the LA Galaxy.
In the MLS off-season, the club loaned him out to Seria A club AC Milan. The English midfielder was supposed to return to his team once the MLS season began but decided to stay for an extra year. Thus began the exchange of words between Beckham and Donovan. The latter called his teammate “unprofessional” and a “quitter.”
When the English captain heard about this, he called Landon unprofessional for expressing his feelings to the media instead of directly coming to him. Beckham finally left the LA Galaxy in 2013 to join League 1 giants PSG.
Beckham addressed “one of the most rewarding moments” of his career
David Beckham was a good player, but the one goal that earned him superstardom was his half-line goal against Wimbledon. In a match against Wimbledon, 20-year-old Beckham received the ball in his own half. He saw the opposing goalkeeper, Neil Sullivan, away from his line and took a shot. The ball went just below the crossbar into the back of the net, making the crowd go crazy.
This strike paved the midfielder’s way to stardom. In his autobiography, My Side, he said that the goal was the start of all the fame: “I couldn’t have known it then, but that moment was the start of it all: the attention, the press coverage, the fame. When my foot struck that ball, it kicked open the door to the rest of my life.”
