Leo Messi has officially posted a video apologizing to Paris Saint-Germain and his teammates after he was banned by the club due to an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia.
PSG suspended the 2022 World Cup winner for two weeks after he left France to attend promotional events following the team’s 3-1 loss to Lorient at the Parc de Princes on Sunday. The 35-year-old was supposed to train with the team on Monday, but he made a trip to Saudi Arabia instead.
During this period, PSG fans protested against the seven time Ballon d’Or winner outside of the PSG headquarters, calling him names. In response to the fans’ reaction and to apologize to his club and teammates, the Argentinian posted a video in his social media.
What did Leo Messi say in the video?
Leo Messi opened the video saying: “I wanted to make this video after everything that’s been happening. First of all, I want to apologize to my teammates and the club.”
“I sincerely thought we would have a free day after the match, as had happened in previous weeks.”
“I’d already had this trip planned, which I’d canceled previously, and this one I couldn’t cancel,” Messi continued. “To repeat, I want to apologize for what I did and I await what the club decides.”
🚨🎙️ Leo Messi statement: “I thought we were going to have a day off after the game as always. I had this trip organised and I couldn't cancel it.

Messi’s apology has been positively received by his fans, with many complimenting the Argentinian’s humbleness. Many others have also spoken about his attire in the apology video, while others drew a comparison with rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

There’s a big fucking difference between Ronaldo and Messi. Know that. Here’s a man who comes out and admits his mistake and apologizes to his team mates. Then there’s Ronaldo who says his team mates are also the problem @Thambi_Milo. This is why I love him. Humility https://t.co/htUbvucT1H

Leo Messi’s contract with PSG will be coming to an end next month, and as of yet, there are no concrete evidence of his destination next year. The 35-year old has been offered a gigantic deal worth $400 million by Saudi club Al-Hilal, while other rumors suggest that Leo will be making a fairytale return to his former club FC Barcelona.
Leo’s contract negotiations with PSG seem to have fallen down quite a bit. But, because of this apology, things may soon turn otherwise.
