Leonardo Bonucci is a well-known name in the footballing world. The defender has been in the game since 200, playing with legendary players like Andrea Pirlo. Bonucci is considered one of the best defenders Italy has ever seen. He has also been a part of the top three Italian clubs namely AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Juventus.
Sadly, the 2020 EURO winner has fallen out of favor with his current employers. Bonucci is currently in a dispute with his former club Juventus who pushed him out of the squad before his contract expired. The Italian defender has now taken the matter to court and is requesting compensation for damages done.
Leonardo Bonucci explains his decision for suing Juventus
In the midst of July 2023, Leonardo Bonucci was told by Cristiano Giuntoli and coach Massimiliano Allegri that his time at the club had come to a halt. Although the defender’s contract is valid till the end of next season, he was still left out of the squad for the 2023/24 season. Not only that, but the player was prevented from training with the team as well, he was banned from the club gym and disallowed to use the swimming pool.
Bonucci: “Juventus directors told me on July 13 that I was out of their project after many rumors on newspapers — this was the biggest humiliation I’ve suffered at Juventus”, told Mediaset.

Bonucci sent an email to the club through his lawyer demanding to get back on the roster but Juventus did not agree to his demand. The 36-year-old terminated his contract with the club at the end of August 2023 but is taking the matter to court. Leonardo Bonucci has called this the “biggest humiliation” he has suffered at Juventus. “Juventus directors told me on July 13 that I was out of their project after many rumours in newspapers — this was the biggest humiliation I’ve suffered at Juventus,” he said.

The player has also accused his coach, Massimiliano Allegri of reporting fake stories. He claims that he was only told about his exit in July and not months ago. “Juventus manager (Allegri) reported some fake stories. It’s not true that Juventus told me months ago about their intention to part ways with me”, he told Mediaset.

For now, Bonucci has left Italy and joined forces with German club Union Berlin for a one-year contract on a free transfer. The player was an unused substitute in their last match against RB Leipzig and is yet to make his debut. Leonardo Bonucci’s career is at its end and he just wants to inspire other players to fight against injustice. He has promised to donate all the money he receives from the lawsuit to an organization named Neuroland.
It is still too early to say who is going to win the case but the fans are siding with Bonucci. The Italian’s move to Union Berlin can be beneficial for the club as they will be participating in the UEFA Champions League for the first time this year.
