Lionel Messi and Inter Miami’s China Tour in further turmoil with second match against Chengdu abruptly changed venue

Inter Miami’s regular MLS season ended on a disappointing note as the club was unable to qualify for the playoff round following a second-to-last finish on the table, resulting in an early conclusion of the season.

The MLS side has begun their preparatory camp during the ongoing off-season to get ready for the next season in the first week of November, unveiling the China tour. However, the tour has dived deeper into turmoil following an abrupt venue change.

Lionel Messi, Inter Miami’s Chengdu match was moved last minute

The World Cup-winning captain Lionel Messi is set to lead his MLS side to a historic trip to China, Asia. the MLS club were scheduled to play two matches on the tour against Chinese Super League teams as announced earlier by Inter Miami in order to prepare for the upcoming season in February 2024.

In a two-match tour, the MLS club set to face Qingdao Hainiu F.C. in their first friendly on November 5 and then play against Chengdu Rongcheng on November 8th in the second and final match of the tour. 

Inter Miami announced the change in the venue of the first fixture Wuyuan River Stadium in Haikou, China, and no changes in the second match against Chengdu to be held in Phoenix Hill Sports Park, in Chengdu. 

Now, it appears that the tour organizers have revealed that Inter Miami’s match against Chengdu Rongcheng cannot be held at the venue previously announced by the club. Various reasons have been cited as the cause for this abrupt last-minute change, throwing the tour into further chaos.

Inter Miami’s China Tour causes chaos with ticketing and venue change

Lionel Messi is close to winning his 8th Ballon d’Or Award on October 30th in Paris before flying to join his club for an upcoming China tour. Owing to the recent sudden venue changes and ticketing issues, concerns have been raised among fans regarding the historic tour of the Argentine icon to China.

Inter Miami are still scheduled to play the first match against Qingdao Hainiu F.C. However, reports have emerged that the second match has been canceled, despite no changes being announced in the venue on November 8th.

This has caused distress among the fans who have already booked hotels and made arrangements to attend the clash in the stadium, as tickets are already on sale on the Chinese ticketing platform Damai.
