Lionel Messi has had a career that no one will be able to match for years. The player has won every trophy, including the FIFA World Cup, the most coveted trophy for any footballer. He has also set several records in football, recently breaking the record for the most assists in history. It is safe to say that Messi is a legend and breaking his records will is not going to be an easy task.
Out of the many records that he holds the most difficult one to break is the record for having the most Ballon d’Or. Currently, the Argentine has 7 Ballon d’Or to his name, followed by none other than Cristiano Ronaldo who has managed to win five. Lionel Messi has also made the list this year and is now set to add another one to his collection in 2023.
Messi aims for historic Ballon d’Or win
Lionel Messi’s performance in the FIFA World Cup was a treat to the eyes. He played a major role in the tournament and can be considered one of the reasons for Argentina’s victory. During the World Cup, Messi scored 7 goals in 7 appearances and got 3 assists to his name. He also won the Golden Ball award, after which everyone considered Messi to be the only candidate eligible to win the Ballon d’Or. Well, that was until Erling Haaland came along.
Erling Haaland signed for Manchester City in July 2022 and made history. He scored 36 goals in 35 games in his Premier League debut further winning the league in his first season. Haaland did not stop there, in the Champions League he made 11 appearances and got 12 goals and 1 assist. Manchester City won the Champions League for the first time in history after Haaland’s addition to the team. The club also went on to win the treble in 2022.
Haaland’s performance has certainly taken everyone by surprise and now Lionel Messi is not the only eligible candidate anymore. The competition is close so all we can do is wait and watch.
Inter Miami remains undefeated after Lionel Messi’s joining
Lionel Messi joined Inter Miami in June, and his time there has been amazing. The player is enjoying his time in America and delivering what everyone expected him to. He is scoring goals and helping his team achieve greatness. Inter Miami has not lost a match since Lionel Messi joined and everyone from fans to owners are delighted.
In their last match against LAFC, Inter Miami came out on top with a score of 3-1. Lionel Messi was an important part of the game getting two assists to his name. Though Messi’s stats for Inter Miami and PSG have been impressive Ligue1 and MLS do not hold much weight compared to the Premier League. In the race for the Ballon d’Or Messi is solely dependent on his World Cup stats.
