In Sunday’s Detroit Lions vs. Dallas Cowboys match, the Cowboys defeated the Lions by a score of 20–19. Well, they were surely pissed off due to their loss, but more so because of a controversial decision by the referees for a 2-point conversion attempt by Taylor Decker; instead, they were awarded an illegal touching penalty. Those two points could’ve resulted in a totally different outcome for the game.
Any team after such a setback would be filled with rage, but the Lions showed sportsmanship; they took things lightly and did a humorous Twitter banter that fans are loving.
Lions troll NFL with “reporting for duty” skit
The referees were of the opinion that number 68, Taylor Decker, was not an eligible receiver of the ball when he took a catch thrown by the quarterback, Jared Goff. According to the referees, backup tackle Dan Skipper was the one who reported to them as eligible before the play. The referee’s decision was final and no video evidence was able to change that. The Detroit Lions had to take the loss.
Lions’ official Twitter handle posted a video of Taylor Decker walking through the snow to enter Ford Field for their next game against the Minnesota Vikings, captioned “reporting for duty.” This was obviously teasing the NFL authorities for their controversial decision in the last match against the Dallas Cowboys. Fans loved it, but Taylor Decker took it to another level by adding on the ongoing-joke. He tagged the tweet and said “This is not me”.
This was followed by Lions’ official quote tweeting his tweet and attaching a video featuring Dan Skipper this time and saying, “there you are”. This was clearly referring to when referees confused the eligible receiver between these two. The whole discontent was harnessed in a way that was not at all hateful but even fun to watch for the viewers. The lighthearted approach of the team shows that when internet hate is so convenient to spread, they chose the option to express themselves without spreading hate.
Lions to host Rams in first playoff round
After their 30–20 win against the Minnesota Vikings, the Lions are on their way to host the Los Angeles Rams at Ford Field in the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs. This is definitely a big deal for the Lions, as this game would be their first home-ground playoff after almost 3 decades (after Jan. 8, 1994). The Lions have been able to secure 12 wins and are looking strong and prepared for the playoffs.
The Rams, on the other hand, initially doubted if they would be able to make it to the playoffs or not, but they have managed to secure their spot after a strong finish to the season. In fact, they won 7 out of the last 8 games they played, and the list also includes games with some noteworthy opponents. Sunday’s match would definitely be worth watching.
