The Los Angeles Lakers had a strong draft in 2024, picking Dalton Knecht and LeBron James’ son, Bronny. However, there have been no deals involving the club so far this offseason. Team insider Jovan Buha believes that if the Lakers don’t make a trade before next year’s deadline, it could spell trouble for LeBron James and the team.
Since winning the NBA title in 2020, the Lakers have had a challenging time maintaining their success. Rookie drafting, LeBron James’s extension, and Max Christie have been their key areas of attention. In spite of LeBron’s efforts to sign Klay Thompson, who ultimately decided to join the Mavericks, the Lakers have remained quiet.
As a result, Laker’s insider, Jovan Buha, is concerned about their future unless they quickly make moves. He said, “I would say if the Lakers don’t make a trade, it’s a wasted season, in my opinion.
He further added, “Just because I don’t think, as currently constructed, they are a legitimate championship contender with the current roster. So, if they don’t go for it and trade at least one of the picks, that, to me, is a wasted season.”
The 2024–25 NBA season is almost here, and Lakers supporters are worried that it will be another lackluster season. But there is some hope because Jovan Buha said Jonas Valanciunas might still join Los Angeles Lakers, which is a good sign.
Jovan Buha Reveals Los Angeles Lakers’ Interest in Jonas Valanciunas
The Los Angeles Lakers were among the NBA clubs who expressed interest in veteran center Jonas Valanciunas over the summer. Despite LeBron James’ interest in Valanciunas, the Lakers did not prioritize acquiring him. He eventually signed with the Washington Wizards for three years. Despite this, Jovan Buha suggests the Lakers might revisit Valanciunas in the future.
Buha said, “There was some interest, obviously. He was on LeBron’s list, so I think the Lakers will probably revisit that. But I don’t think there’s as much interest as a guy like Wendell Carter or some of these other guys that have popped up.”
