UFC Lightweight contender Michael Chandler has blasted Dustin Poirier for the recent comments he made about Chandler not being able to take hits from Conor McGregor.
The Lightweight division is arguably the most interesting division in the UFC. With so many high level technicians, sometimes it is expected that they will be trying to bring each other down using just words. Two such contenders in the division who have recently gone back and forth multiple times are Michael Chandler and Dustin Poirier.
The war of words has been reignited recently too, when the former interim lightweight champion told Teddy Atlas hard hitters are not a good matchup for former Bellator champion.
“I’m not saying Chandler’s chinny or anything, but he gets hurt in a lot of his fights, and guys like Conor can punch. If you are getting hurt by Tony Ferguson and dropped by (Charles) Oliveira, guys like me, guys like Conor, if we touch your chin, it’s gonna be bad.”
Poirier has fought Conor thrice, so he knows a thing or two about the Irishman. He won twice, and lost once.
“Iron” Chandler has since hit back with some rage at “The Diamond”, labelling his remarks as “Back door MMA math” saying, “Nobody gives a rip about your wannabe, don’t make sense, lost your shine so you’re trying to steal everybody else’s shine, back door MMA math. Zip it.”
Poirier’s last fight in the octagon ended in defeat as lost his title shot against Charles Oliveira. Oliveira, who was then stripped of his title at UFC 274 for missing weight, was headlining the event where Michael Chandler scored of the greatest knockout victories of all time over Tony Ferguson.
As both fighters don’t have any fights scheduled, facing each other doesn’t seem like a bad idea.
