Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips may leave his club since the player is not getting the respect and attention he deserves at the Etihad. Fans have not seen much of Kalvin Phillips this season, and the 27-year-old might be looking to make a move away from the reigning Premier League champions.
Phillips needs to act as quickly as he can to gain some playtime, as being on the bench for too long can make him lose his place in England’s national football team at EURO 2024.
Kalvin Phillips to consider Man City exit after Pep Guardiola snub
Since the start of this season, we have not seen much of Kalvin Phillips. The English international has only made five appearances for Manchester City this season. He was part of the first squad in a single game against Newcastle United on September 28 in an EFL Cup Round 3 match.
Phillips thought that things might change after City’s primary defensive midfielder, Rodri, got injured, but that did not happen. Pep Guardiola refused to include him in the Cityzens’ first squad and used youngster Rico Lewis as Rodri’s replacement.
The former Leeds United player will be seen on the field for England’s match against Italy and Malta, but Gareth Southgate has advised him to get more game time.
Possible destinations for Kalvin Phillips after Man City exit
It is clear that Kalvin Phillips needs to take his talents elsewhere since Pep Guardiola thinks he is not good enough for Manchester City’s first team. Phillips is not a bad player at all, and he has many options available to him. The frontrunners in the race to sign Kalvin Phillips are Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Bayern signed Joao Cancelo from City on a loan from January 2023 to June 2023, and now they are interested in securing another deal with the Cityzens in the English midfielder.
There is a chance that Kalvin will remain in the Premier League, as clubs like Newcastle United and Everton are also interested in him. Newcastle is looking to strengthen their midfield, and the English international seems to be a good choice. Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano also talked about the player’s potential move.
He said, “Kalvin Phillips, despite links with Newcastle and Everton, I’m not aware of concrete talks on this one. Phillips wanted to stay at City this summer despite some approaches, so he’s still focused on doing his best for City, and then a decision will be made later, like in November or December. Newcastle won’t decide anything on transfer targets before they know what happens in their Champions League group.”
We are yet to see if Kalvin Phillips decides to leave Manchester City in the upcoming transfer window or not, but it would be a smart decision to try other options since he is not accomplishing much at his current club.
