Erik Ten Hag has made quite an impact in his first season in the Premier League. He helped the shaky-looking Manchester United squad to achieve a third-place finish in the Premier League and ended their silverware drought of six long years by winning the EFL Cup. Several reports suggested that Mason Mount was the priority signing for Erik Ten Hag and Manchester United.
Before entering the transfer market, Ten Hag hoped to strengthen a lot of areas on the pitch but not more so than the midfield. With the departure of Fred, Donny Van de Beek and Scott Mctominay on the cards, United are looking to rejuvenate their midfield for the next season. With news of finally reaching an agreement with Chelsea, it seems as though the Dutchman’s wait for his first signing is finally over.
United get Mount over the line following the third successful bid
After lengthy negotiations with Chelsea, Manchester United have their man. Renowned football journalist David Ornstein reported that the Red Devils have reached an agreement with the London club for a deal worth $69 million plus $6 million in add-ons for the English midfielder. Chelsea rejected the second bid from Manchester United and demanded a fee of over $75 million. Considering the agreed fee for the 24-year-old midfielder, it seems like both clubs have compromised and found a middle ground.

The English midfielder proves to be the latest victim of the Chelsea overhaul. With the Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino in charge, Chelsea is looking to make amends after an unsuccessful last season. Mason Mount gets added to a lengthy list of departures which includes the likes of Kai Havertz, N’Golo Kante, Hakim Ziyech and Edouard Mendy.
Mason Mount pushed for Manchester United to move ahead of the final year in the Chelsea contract
Despite the Englishman having an underwhelming last season playing just 24 matches in the Premier League and finding the net just three times, Erik Ten Hag believes he is the right player for his system. Although the arrival of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in the last transfer window enhanced United’s midfield options, injuries to key players in the latter part of the season didn’t help Ten Hag’s cause.
With only one year left on his contract, Mason Mount was adamant about his departure from Stanford Bridge. Many reports mentioned the Argentine coach was keen to extend the midfielder’s stay but there was no optimism from the player’s side, Mount had his sights on playing at Old Trafford for a long time.
Although Manchester United fans are excited to see the English midfielder in red, there are a lot of question marks on the form of Mason Mount after an underwhelming last season. After the arrival of Mason Mount, Manchester United still have a lot on their table. With no clarity on the future of David de Gea and contacts with Inter Milan number 1 Andre Onana, it seems like it is going to be a busy few weeks for Manchester United.
