David De Gea’s future at Manchester United is in serious doubt, and Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana has been identified as the perfect replacement for the Spaniard. De Gea has made it obvious in the last season that he wasn’t the ideal goalkeeper for Manchester United and how they want to play.
A mistake at Brighton, a couple more at Seville, and a fateful night at Wembley that handed City the chance to complete a treble almost spelled the end of De Gea’s reign at United. The four-time United Player of the Year does not possess the qualities of a modern goalkeeper, forcing Erik Ten Hag’s hands to find a solution as soon as possible.
United need a goalkeeper that is confident with his feet just as with his gloves, if they’re to contend for titles next season. Inter Milan’s Andre Onana seems to fit perfectly into Erik Ten Hag’s plans, but will United get their man?
United Ready $40 Million Bid for Andre Onana
Manchester United have long been linked with Andre Onana as the goalkeeper possesses the qualities Ten Hag wants in his ideal goalkeeper. His performance in the Champions League final against City clearly indicates how confident the Cameroonian is with his feet.
The goalkeeper is no stranger to the United manager. He played his best football under the Dutch manager at Ajax and will gladly do so again, provided United match Inter’s valuation of the in-demand goalkeeper. Manchester United are reportedly lining up a $40 million opening bid for the goalkeeper, although this is some way off the reported $60 million price Inter want for their star man.
If this is true, Inter will most likely reject the bid, forcing United’s hands to send a second bid as soon as possible. United will want to wrap up all their transfers before the new season kicks off, which is just about a month away.
Al Nassr to Lure Onana with Bumper Deal
Man Utd are confident of landing their man, but things could take a completely different course, with reports from CBS Sports breaking out yesterday that Al Nassr have entered the race to sign the former Ajax goalkeeper. The Saudi club will offer more money to Inter and a bumper contract to the Cameroonian, just like they’ve done with many of their players, including former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
At 27, Onana is believed to be keen on a move to United as he wants to continue playing at the highest level. This will play a huge part in United’s negotiations with Inter as the goalkeeper favors a switch to Old Trafford. Andre Onana has his best years in front of him, and United will help him win some trophies under Ten Hag.
But what’s your verdict on this? Do you think Andre Onana fits the criterias Manchester United are looking for? Or is there something missing? Don’t forget to let us know in the comments section.
