Manchester United’s lack of squad depth proved crucial last season, as the injuries to several senior players seem to have taken a toll on the team’s performance. United were even tipped to rival City and Arsenal for the title by some pundits, thanks to impressive displays that led to wins against City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham.
United were dumped out of the Europa League by Sevilla after being in control for much of the round’s first leg. De Gea conceded three goals in the second leg, taking the scores to 5-2 on aggregate. Another dismal display against City in the FA Cup final set the noisy neighbors on course to clinch the first treble in the club’s history.
Signings probably need to be made if United are to compete for titles this season. So far, only Mason Mount has been signed. Man Utd needs a striker to take the goalscoring burden off Marcus Rashford, who scored 30 goals in all competitions last season.
Manchester United Launched Second Onana Bid Closer to Inter Valuation
Inter are reportedly looking for €60 million for their star man, and United are still some way off that valuation. United have submitted a second bid for Andre Onana, as called by Fabrizio Romano yesterday. Inter Milan has reportedly rejected this bid as it was deemed insufficient by the Italian giants.
A third bid will likely match Inter’s valuation of their goalkeeper, and a deal could be announced soon if all parties are satisfied. Andre Onana has also reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Red Devils. This could make him the goalkeeper United missed most of last season, as Ten Hag always wanted a goalkeeper who could play comfortably with his feet.
There seems to be no coming back for De Gea now. He is most likely not going to accept a second-fiddle role to Onana, so with his contract having expired at the end of June, he is now free to sign for almost any club of his choice, with interests coming from Saudi Arabia to land the Spaniard.
United Continue to Italian Conquest with Hojlund Next in Line
Manchester United need a striker as much as they need a goalkeeper. United missed a focal point last season, and the club may not have qualified for next season’s Champions League without Marcus Rashford’s goals. Rasmus Hojlund has emerged as a potential target for United and may complete his move soon.
According to ESPN, United is preparing a £50 million bid for the Atalanta forward. This may be enough to tempt Atalanta into selling the Danish forward to United.
Is Rasmus Hojlund the ideal fit for United heading into next season? Will he bring goals that will help the team win titles? Let us know your thoughts!
