Manchester United have had a very disappointing season as of yet, with injuries coupling up equally with bad performances as reasons behind the dip in form. Man United boss Erik ten Hag got some much needed support recently, amidst him facing a lot of heat with fans asking for his sacking as United look to shake things up in the club.
However, Manchester United have started their backroom overhaul, starting with the medical team. United have been hit with massive injury concerns as the Red Devils prepare to travel to Anfield for their game against Liverpool. After their injury-hit encounter against top dogs Bayern Munich, United face another tough fitness test against Liverpool.
Manchester United reportedly aiming for medical team overhaul
Although it has looked like the Red Devils have failed to perform this season, their injury crisis is something that has not come to light very often. Manchester United have been hit with injuries the entire season, with players like Christian Eriksen, Mason Mount, Casemiro, Luke Shaw, and Lisandro Martinez still out for a long time.
However, Manchester United have decided to act on it and are close to overhauling the backroom medical staff for prevention of injuries and better rehabilitation of the players.
It has been reported that Gary O’Driscoll, the head of sports medicine, is planning to make some changes to the medical team immediately. Following his transfer from Arsenal to Manchester United in the summer, O’Driscoll has a number of suggestions that he intends to present to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team once their 25 percent ownership in the club is established.
O’Driscoll wants the club to apply the latest methods and have a new approach, as it is believed that Unitedâs current approach is outdated. The club will hire younger doctors, especially BAME doctors, and “make a concerted effort” to diversify the medical staff.
United’s current injuries, suspensions ahead of Liverpool game
Manchester United are not in a very good position, as they take a trip to Merseyside on Sunday. While Liverpool are enjoying their run of form and their time as league leaders, United, on the other hand, are in a huge crisis.
Unitedâs current injury list for the Liverpool game comprises Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Casemiro, Tyler Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Amad Diallo, Christian Eriksen and Mason Mount, while Bruno Fernandes will miss the game due to suspension.
Performances, eliminations, injury crisis and disciplinary issues have hampered the first half of the season for Erik ten Hag. However, a win against their biggest rivals might act as compensation. On the other hand, Liverpool look to continue their streak, as they aim to match Unitedâs 20 league titles by the end of May.
