After losing one of their best and most important players, Manchester United’s coach Erik Ten Hag is facing some issues finding a replacement for his personal favorite left-back, Luke Shaw. Shaw suffered a muscle injury recently which has prevented him from participating in any of the games and he is sure to be out for the next few weeks.
United is currently trying to find a replacement. Recent reports showed that the Red Devils may make a move for Ryan Bertrand but they have also shown interest in Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella. This was unexpected as the 25-year-old has been out of action for the past few games.
Manchester United seek defensive acquisition following injury woes
Manchester United is having a hard time this season with players like Antony and Mason Greenwood tangled in controversies. Things only got worse when Luke Shaw and Mason Mount suffered injuries. The latest player to fall victim to this streak was Raphael Varane who sustained an injury in Yesterday’s match against Nottingham Forest.
Manchester United desperately need a full back and the Red Devils have made contact with the Blues discussing a loan move for Marc Cucurella.
This came as a big surprise, as the Spanish left-back for whom Chelsea have spent a whopping £56m, seems to be out of favor in the Blues squad. Cucurella played his last match on August 3 against Borussia Dortmund, where he came in as a substitute in the 73rd minute.
Despite the injuries, coach Erik Ten Hag believes that Manchester United is still not weak and the manager has players to use from the squad, “We definitely have solutions in our squad to cope. We thought before the season about the scenario, that it could happen,” he said.
Old Trafford outfit avoid humiliation at home following late flurry
Manchester United’s recent match against Nottingham Forest could have been a big embarrassment for the club but they managed to turn it around. The hole in Manchester’s defense could be seen right from the first goal scored by Taiwo Awoniyi when he received the ball in the midfield and ran away with it. He easily brushed off Rahsford who was trying to backtrack him to reach the six-yard box and put the ball past Onana.
Fans did not have to wait for a second goal much longer as it came only two minutes later. United’s players failed to clear away a cross from a right-sided-free-kick which took a couple of deflections and reached Willy Boly who headed it in the goal. Conceding one goal after another was not looking good for the Red Devils, but they managed to turn it around.
Christian Eriksen managed to score a goal in the 17th minute receiving the ball near Nottingham’s goalpost. The second goal came in the 52nd minute due to the stunning coordination shown by Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Casemiro. It is all thanks to the foul committed by Danilo that United was offered a penalty which captain Bruno Fernandes easily turned into a goal completing the comeback.
Though they successfully won the match, Manchester United should still consider this as a warning to strengthen their defense as luck will not always be on their side. Coach Erik Ten Hag addressed the errors made by his team after the match saying he was pleased with the comeback but it was a “horror start”.
“It is a horror start, giving them two goals and making mistakes,” said Ten Hag. “But I am very pleased with the comeback, the leadership, how we stayed calm and composed and stuck to the plans and belief and turned it around. And I think we played very good football, out of our plan we scored very good goals.”, he added.
Surely the club has now realized how much they are in need of a decent full-back who can take Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane’s place. It is only a matter of time before we see the Red Devils make some new signings in that area and build a stronger backline.
