Manchester United will be holding important talks with Chelsea to discuss the transfer of English midfielder Mason Mount.
Manchester United has agreed to hold crunch talks with Chelsea in the next two days to determine the future of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount. The two clubs will be discussing details of whether the deal for Mason Mount will happen or not.
This is after weeks of discussions and three rejected bids for the player, with United briefly pulling out of the race.
Chelsea rejected previous three Manchester United bids
The Red Devil’s manager Erik Ten Haag wants to reinforce his midfield with dynamic players. He wants Mount to join as he appreciates the player due to his qualities such as his versatility, pressing ability, and athletic prowess. United is rising as a team and will also play Champions League next season which is also attractive to Mount.
United first approached the player, who was keen to join the club. Both parties agreed on personal terms, which made United enter the transfer talks with Chelsea at an advantage.

They have made three bids so far, with the latest valuing Mount at £55m. But Chelsea has rejected all of them and wants a fixed fee of £65m. This is a little lower than the previous fee of £80m that they demanded initially.
But United believe that their latest offer was a fair offer and is unwilling to go any higher. They briefly pulled out of the talks and instead decided to pursue Brighton’s Moises Caicedo who is also being chased by Chelsea and Arsenal. According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea then asked United to have a discussion with them which United has agreed.
Time running out for Chelsea with Mount entering final year in contract
Mount’s future at Chelsea is unresolved since his contract with the club expires after next season. He has been rumored to be sold this summer for quite some time after rejecting contract renewals from the board.
Both parties were working on a contract extension since the start of the season, however, negotiations have since been stalled as both cannot agree on terms. The new rumored Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino wants Mount to stay. But it still depends on whether the club and player can reach an agreement.
Chelsea is also open to letting the midfielder leave as they are looking to rebuild the squad after a tough season. Mount is said to be ready to leave either this summer or for a free transfer next summer.
With this in mind, the Blues have to be quick in order to avoid this. There is a lack of interest from other clubs in Mount, so it will be in their interest to quickly agree a deal with United soon. If they delay any longer, United may finally exit talks and go for their summer target Moises Caicedo instead.
The next talks will have to be carefully approached if Chelsea wants a satisfactory outcome. Mount’s future will be determined within the next 48 hours.
