Manchester United’s midfield star Casemiro has been an integral part of Eric ten Hag’s line-up, who started in the first eight Premier League fixtures and also featured in the first two Champions League clashes against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, respectively. He even netted a brace in the UCL opener at Allianz Arena in a 4-3 defeat to the hosts.
The Brazilian international marked his return from injury to the pitch against Newcastle. However, he was soon taken off due to a recurrence of discomfort in his hamstring. It has been reported that the 31-year-old is set to be sidelined for a prolonged period due to his injury.
Casemiro faces prolonged injury layoff
Casemiro switched to Manchester United from Real Madrid for a hefty transfer fee of £60 million that the Red Devils paid to secure his services. He receives a weekly wage of £300,000, making him the third-highest earner at the club, only behind Jadon Sancho and his former Real Madrid teammate, Raphael Varane.
After an impressive first season, the 31-year-old experienced a setback in his second season at Old Trafford, struggling with fitness and form. During last month’s national duty with the Brazil national team, he sustained an ankle injury, which kept him out of the Red Devils’ last three league matches.
The Brazil international made his comeback against Newcastle United in a humiliating 3-0 loss, resulting in their exit from the Carabao Cup as defending champions. However, he was replaced at half-time due to hamstring injury woes.
Manchester United confirmed that Casemiro sustained a hamstring injury, potentially sidelining him for a few weeks. Eric ten Hag also revealed that the holding midfielder will be out of action until Christmas, missing the upcoming 10 matches, including the important Champions League return leg against Copenhagen.
Saudi Pro League clubs eye Casemiro
Casemiro is set to miss upcoming crucial matches and is unlikely to return until the new year due to a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, the Brazilian star has reportedly caught the attention of Saudi Pro League clubs, who have already lured several Premier League stars and are now targeting players such as Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Reportedly, Manchester United is open to the idea of selling the midfielder to the right offer, although he is under contract with the Red Devils until 2026. Moreover, the club has accounted for the high wage being paid to the player and several other expenses, aiming to balance their expenditure.
