Matthew Slater names one ex-teammate who followed Tom Brady like ‘puppy dog’ at Patriots

Tom Brady’s journey with the New England Patriots marked not just his emergence as the team’s linchpin but also his role as a mentor and big brother to teammates. One such teammate was Julian Edelman, whose initial interaction with the NFL legend might not have been ideal.

Apart from being a vocal supporter of Tom Terrific, he maintained a bond with Brady that has remained strong over the years. Recently, former Patriots player Matthew Slater shed light on the depth of loyalty Edelman had for TB12.

Matthew Slater reveals who followed Tom Brady in the Patriots

Matthew Slater recently made an appearance on the Green Light Podcast with Chris Long, where he shared some insights into his time with the New England Patriots. When asked about which teammate sucked up to Tom Brady the most, Slater didn’t hesitate to name Julian Edelman.

“That one is easy. That’s Julian (Edelman) all the way,” he said with a laugh.

The former Patriots player went on to describe Edelman as blindly following the NFL legend, often resembling a little puppy dog early in his career. Even so, he used to do whatever he could to endear himself to the NFL legend.

“He followed him around like a little puppy dog early in his career. And then would do whatever he could to endear himself to Tom. He was so hyper focused on what does Tom have going on.”

Chris Long also brought up Brady’s habit of bringing teammates on vacation, prompting Slater to confirm that Edelman was definitely one who “cared about that.”

Veteran Julian Edelman’s recent retirement adds another chapter to the closing book on the Patriots’ dynasty. With Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and coach Bill Belichick all exiting Foxborough in recent years, Edelman’s departure cements the end of an era for New England fans.

Tom Brady and Julian Edelman’s friendship

Julian Edelman and Tom Brady share a deep bond forged during their time together with the New England Patriots. Their connection spans 11 years and includes three Super Bowl victories, which strengthened their status as one of the most iconic duos in NFL history.

Edelman likened their relationship to that of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, emphasizing the enduring love and mutual respect they share that he revealed during an interview with the Patriots Wire.

“Yeah, we’re kind of like Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. We never got married. We may have had a couple of different relationships. But we’ll always love each other. We have a couple of kids.”

Together, the duo amassed an impressive stat line of 580 receptions, 6,311 receiving yards, and 41 touchdowns in 127 career games. Their on-field chemistry and success are undeniable, contributing significantly to the Patriots’ dynasty during their tenure together.

Despite Brady’s departure from the Patriots to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, their friendship off the field has remained strong.
