Mavericks Coach Jason Kidd Shares Update On Klay Thompson’s Back Pain

In the Mavericks’ second preseason game, Klay Thompson made his debut but experienced back discomfort afterward. In Thursday’s game against the Jazz, Thompson played 18 minutes, scoring 10 points with three assists but no rebounds.

Later, in the post-game interview,  he mentioned that Klay Thompson’s back tightened up, but he remains hopeful about playing against the Clippers on Monday.

After the Friday practice session, coach Jason Kidd provided an update, saying, “He did the walk-through, did some stuff on the floor, and then got his treatment. We will see how he feels tomorrow.”

Kidd emphasized the importance of monitoring Thompson’s condition closely, especially given his history of injuries. “We want to make sure he’s fully ready before he gets back on the court,” Kidd added.

Klay Thompson is dealing with another injury, and without him, the Warriors are visibly struggling on offense. Despite their back-to-back wins, their challenges have been evident in their three consecutive preseason games.

Steph Curry on Warriors environment without Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson’s trade to the Dallas Mavericks this summer will usher in a new era for the Golden State Warriors. His absence creates a significant vacuum on and off the court.

Klay Thompson’s departure had an impact on the team’s offense and bonding. Stephen Curry, who had a tight relationship with Thompson, is adapting to the changes with Draymond Green and head coach Steve Kerr.

Curry said, “[Klay] would usually enter the practice facility coming off of his boat. With his Dockers on, whatever outfit he had on. He just had a presence about him, a lightness when he came into the room. And his one-liners were always great. … [I’m] talking about him like he died, [which is] super weird.”

The 36-year-old added, “Life throws a lot of curve balls in sports. You’re used to seeing people change places and teams. [However] up until but a week before he decided to sign Dallas, we never really thought it was going to end.”
