Memphis Grizzlies To Release Derrick Rose At His Own Request

The Memphis Grizzlies had a tough season last year, mainly due to injuries. In an effort to make big changes this season, they have decided to let go of former NBA MVP Rose.

This appeared strange at first, but it turned out that  Rose requested to be released from his contract.

After agreeing to a two-year contract, former NBA MVP Derrick Rose spent one season with the Memphis Grizzlies, but he only participated in 24 games because of injuries. According to Shams Charania, the organization is officially releasing the 35-year-old.

Later, Ian Begley from SNY TV mentioned that Rose wanted to be released from his contract. Even though he didn’t play much, Rose helped the younger players, especially Ja Morant. He scored about 8 points and made 3.3 assists per game.

No one knows what he will do next, but people are curious if he will retire or join a new team.

Derrick Rose Vowed to Return for 17th NBA Season with Grizzlies

Derrick Rose was expected to fight with Ja Morant for playing time before his release. He said in April that he will be returning to Memphis for his 17th NBA season.

His response was, “Yes, I’m coming back. I talked to [general manager] Zach [Kleiman], I talked to coach. … This summer, it’s all about attacking my rehabs, my workouts, and continuing to be disciplined.”

Rose has the potential to remain a proficient player if he chooses to continue playing, provided that he is in good health. However, new reports suggest that the Grizzlies may have decided to offer Scotty Pippen Jr. a regular deal since they want to have more options at point guard.
