Mercedes Mone, former WWE superstar, five-time WWE Women’s Champion, NXT Women’s Champion, and one of the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, is back in the news after rumors surfaced about the wrestler’s potential return.
The Boss has not been seen inside the ring since losing to Willow Nightingale. On May 21, due to an ankle injury she lost the match for NJPW Strong Women’s Champion. Recently the 31-year-old wrestling star posted a cryptic message in Twitter based on the rumor’s about her.
Mercedes Mone drops cryptic message on social media
Mercedes Mone posted a message on Twitter/X just before one of the best shows of the year, AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday, was set to start. There were rumors circulating that Tony Khan, the President of AEW, was considering signing Mercedes Mone (formerly known as Sasha Banks) in his company. However, the possibility of Mone joining AEW, as per rumors, has been scrapped.
“I know somewhere I will find the key,” a cryptic massage from Mercedes was posted on December 15. Although the message was not clear, some fans speculate that Moné was referring about her potential return in WWE as her persona of ‘The Boss’ Sasha Banks.
Since May 15, 2022, Mone has had no contact with WWE, having walked out of wrestling for WWE alongside her then-tag team championship partner, Trinity (formerly known as Naomi). According to reports, the pair were allegedly suspended without any form of pay and were quietly released. To date, neither Banks nor Naomi has commented on their release from WWE, leaving it unclear why they left.
Update on Mercedes Mone’s relationship with AEW
Mone’s first appearance on AEW was on “Zero Hour” Pre-Show All In, and during the event the camera panned towards the face of Mone, sitting in the crowd. Her screening made the crowd roar out of excitement as this was her first appearance on any sort of AEW event to date.
Per reports Mercedes was expected to make her debut on AEW at the Blood and Guts episode of Dynamite in her hometown of Boston, MA. However, reports from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select says a whole another story. In an interview, Sean Ross Sapp said that the plans for Mercedes Mone joining AEW have been stopped for some unknown reason.
Sean Ross Sapp said, “SportsKeeda ran an article, and nobody reached out to me or anything to clarify any language, which is always a possibility, but it got aggregated by like dozens of Facebook accounts that said that I claimed that Mercedes/Sasha was demanding huge money from WWE. I have not heard anything of talks with WWE. I didn’t say who or what kind of talks were happening. And that type of context is very, very important.”
Fans are excited for the return of Mercedes Mone/Sasha Banks, their eyes will remain on the day to see if the former Women’s Champion makes her presence known on AEW or even on a comeback for WWE.
