During this MLB offseason in 2023, every franchise strengthens its roster for upcoming competition. Following the trend, the Chicago Cubs have already been the subject of trade speculation.
The Cubs have already signed a one-year contract with former Boston Red Sox first baseman Eric Hosmer. Eric scored 196 home runs out of 805 runs and stole 76 bases in his 12 MLB years.
However, rumors suggest that the Cubs are linked with another first baseman, Trey Mancini.
What is Trey Mancini’s supposed contract?
According to an insider source, Trey is set to sign a two-year deal after a confirmed physical. Though the Cubs didn’t say anything official, it is heavily likely to include an option to become a free agent after the 2023 season.

This weekend’s Cubs convention at the Sheraton Grand Chicago fueled speculation. However, there was no mention of the financial side of the alleged deal.
The 30-year-old right-hander made his MLB debut for the Baltimore Orioles in 2016 against the Boston Red Sox. Later that year, he chose to leave the Orioles in order to undergo a medical procedure—a surgery to remove a malignant tumor from his colon.
Later, Mancini revealed his stage-three colon cancer and started taking chemotherapeutic treatment.
The World Series champion defeated cancer and came back to the Orioles in 2021. In 2022, he was part of a three-team trade to go to the Houston Astros and win the World Series. He became a free agent in 2023.
Mancini won the ‘cancer’ after hitting 125 home runs out of 376 runs in 3119 plate appearances during his 6-year playing career. He is projected to score 17 home runs in 122 at-bats in the 2023 season, per Baseball-Reference.
If the Cubs finally go with Trey, the MLB community will get to see Hosmer and Mancini send balls out of Wrigley Field.
