United identified Mason Mount as their top transfer target at the end of the season and finally got their man for £60 million, including add-ons from Chelsea. It was not an easy process for United, who had to deal with stubborn Chelsea after rejecting three bids.
The Portsmouth-born midfielder joined Chelsea as a four-year-old, and after several loan spells, he finally got his chance with the first team under Frank Lampard in 2019. He quickly became a fan favorite at Stamford Bridge after signing a five-year contract in 2019 that would keep him at the club until 2024.
With Chelsea being hit with a transfer embargo, Mason Mount played a key role in the club’s Champions League qualification for the next season. A year later, he would lift his first major trophy with the Blues after defeating Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League final in 2021.
Bruno Fernandes Sends His Regards to New Signing Mason Mount
United’s vice-captain has welcomed his new teammate Mason Mount with a hilarious post on his Instagram story. United unveiled Mason Mount on Wednesday, and Fernandes welcomed him by posting a picture of the duo locking horns when they played at Old Trafford last season. Bruno captioned the story, “Why did you take so long to sign? Welcome, Mason Mount.”
Fernandes made a light joke about Mount’s prolonged transfer saga from Chelsea. Mason Mount also received greetings from captain Harry Maguire and fellow Englishman Luke Shaw. Luke earlier expressed his desire to have more English teammates join him at United after the national team used Old Trafford as their camp in the last international break.
Mason Mount may quickly settle in as he’s familiar with other England internationals like Marcus Rashford, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw, and Harry Maguire. Mount will likely be pumped to play a part in United’s season opener when they face Wolves at Old Trafford next month.
Duo Squared Off Following 3rd United Goal in 4-1 Hammering of Chelsea in May
Bruno Fernades and Mason Mount squared off after the former scored a cheeky penalty to send Kepa the wrong way in a heated contest back in May. Bruno’s goal made it 3-0 for United in a match they went on to win 4-1 in complete annihilation of Frank Lampard’s team.
United’s other goalscorers on the day were Rashford, Casemiro, and Anthony Martial. Joao Felix pulled one back for the Blues late in the game to get a consolation.
How do you think United should line up next season with Bruno and Mount in the team?
