To add to those absences, Kylian Mbappe is trying to leave the club for free next season by not extending his contract. This has been a source of great disappointment and trouble at the club’s dressing room. And now new signing Marco Asensio has been injured, which is another setback for the Parisians.
PSG’s woes continue with Marco Asensio’s injury
PSG was hit by bad news when they learned that Marco Asensio picked up an injury during his international duty with Spain. It happened during the match against Georgia, where they were already 4-0 up at halftime. Asensio was then substituted, appearing to have a muscle injury at the time. However, new reports have suggested the opposite.
COPE reported that Asensio’s injury is serious and could see him sidelined until the next international break. This means that he could be out of the pitch for a little more than a month.
The injury has come at a bad time, especially as the club faces some important games ahead. They will have a tough fixture against Nice in Ligue 1, but even tougher will be the Champions League opener against Borussia Dortmund, a very difficult team to beat.
Asensio will also miss crucial games against Marseille, Rennes, and Newcastle United. Asensio has already become crucial to the squad. In the three matches he has played, the Spaniard has scored 2 goals and provided an assist
PSG looked to Asensio for the Post-Messi era
Marco Asensio was brought in to replace the gap that was left by the departure of Lionel Messi to Inter Miami. While Messi did not live up to expectations at the Parc Des Princes, there was always going to be a big gap left in his position.
Asensio had left Madrid on a free transfer to finally get game time in a club where he would be appreciated. He was assured by the Parisians that he would be one of the main men in the club. While Asensio himself didn’t prove to be a consistent player, PSG put their faith in him.
At PSG, he was part of a new front trio, partnering with Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and Randal Kolo Muani. While on paper, this is a great new attack, they still have to prove themselves in more games. With Asensio’s injury, PSG has suffered a major setback.
