Months after prioritizing golf over $186,000,000 agreement, Gareth Bale’s passion for the game gets stamp of approval from PGA Tour

Gareth Bale is enjoying retirement very much after calling an end to a beautiful career this year. In a long career, the Welshman has played for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid, where he achieved much of his success, and lastly, in the MLS, for Los Angeles FC.

He has also been faithful to his home nation, Wales, which he led to a semi-final finish in Euro 2016 and their first World Cup participation in 2022 after 64 years. But amid all this, Bale has always been an ardent supporter of golf and even used to prefer it to playing at Real Madrid at the end of his career. His love for golf has now earned him a place in the world of the sport.

Gareth Bale included in PGA Tour video game

Gareth Bale has now become a playable character in the PGA Tour 2023 video game. It was long documented that Bale had an immense love for golf, which was also once a source of hilarious jokes and memes during his Madrid days.

In a video shared on his social media platforms, the Welshman shared his experience being scanned for the game, and wrote the caption, “I’m Gareth Bale. I’m here getting scanned in PGA Tour 2K23.”

Bale had already made his PGA debut earlier this year, in February, at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. This was right after he announced his decision to retire in January. This week, he also teed off along with Rory McIlroy at the BMW PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am.

Having professionally started his golf career, the former Real Madrid winger has now made it into the digital world of the PGA Tour’s video game. He was also memorably featured on the cover of FIFA 14 alongside Argentine superstar Lionel Messi.

Bale left Madrid in 2022 after falling out of favour

Bale had signed for Real Madrid back in 2013 for a world record fee of 100 million euros. Over the years, he was prolific for them, scoring 106 goals for the club. He helped them win several trophies, including being an important part of the three peat UCL win.

But at the end of his stay there, he had become very detached from the club. He was often benched and seen as unprofessional. He was also often seen playing golf, which is the sport he professionally plays.

This was seen angrily by Real Madrid fans, especially as the player was enjoying a contract worth $186,000,000. In 2019, he had even celebrated a win with Wales with a flag that said, “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order.”

In 2020, he returned to Tottenham on a season-long loan. After that, in 2022, he left the club on a free transfer and joined Los Angeles FC. Nevertheless, Gareth Bale will always be remembered for his contributions to the club.
