Months after Wrexham fairytale, Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds joins Alpine F1 efforts with 24% stake

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the owners of Wrexham FC, have reportedly become part of a consortium investing in Alpine F1. The pair took over Wrexham in 2020 and were responsible for guiding the team to their promotion back to the League. This investment has led to an approximate valuation of Alpine F1 at around £700 million.

Alpine Racing has set an ambitious goal known as the ‘Mountain Climber’ plan, which aims to compete for a championship within a span of 100 races. The team is set to receive a boost with the addition of Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny, who will be joining an investor group.

The group is acquiring a 24 percent equity stake in the team, providing a significant financial and strategic advantage to Alpine Racing.

Renault, the parent company of the F1 team Alpine, made an announcement on Monday regarding the investment. The deal, valued at approximately £171 million resulted in the Britsh-based Alpine being valued at around £700 million. As part of the investment, Alec Scheiner, co-founder and partner of Otro Capital, will join Alpine’s boards of directors.

Ryan Reynolds, known for his role in ‘Deadpool’ heads Maximum Efforts Investments along with Rob McElhenney, known for his involvement in the American comedy series ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,’ and actor Michael B. Jordan. They are joining forces as co-investors in this venture.

‘Mountain Climber’ is a plan to be fighting for championships within the space of 100 races, starting in 2022,

“The incremental revenue generated will in turn be reinvested in the team, in order to further accelerate our Mountain Climber plan, aimed at catching up with top teams in terms of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.”

Alpine’s current season performance

Alpine, which operates a factory in Enstone, has a notable history in F1. The team previously competed as Renault’s works team and as Benetton, achieving significant success.

They secured the F1 constructors’ world championships in 1995 as Benetton and in 2005 and 2006 as Renault. These victories mark important milestones in Alpine’s F1 legacy, showcasing their ability to compete at the highest level and emerge as champions in the sport.

A successful first season for Alpine F1 Team - Renault Group

Alpine had a commendable performance in the previous F1 season, finishing 4th in the championship. As for the ongoing 2023 season, after 8 races, Alpine currently holds the 5th position in the championship standings.
