Kirk Cousins has officially signed with the Atlanta Falcons after a week of negotiations. On Wednesday afternoon, the team announced plans to sign Cousins to a lucrative four-year contract worth $180 million.
Talking about his new team, the Falcons, Kirk Cousins made his infamous retirement claim that has made him laughable, drawing hilarious reactions from the fans.
Kirk Cousins multiple retirement claims are hilarious
After several years, Kirk Cousins has finally signed a stable contract with the Falcons. While some argue that they are going to overpay the QB, his talents and football prowess make him worthy of this deal.
However, what got everyone’s attention was Kirk Cousins’ claim that he wanted to retire with the Falcons. Hilariously, it is not the first time the QB has made this claim.
When he was with Redskin in 2017, he said, “I want to retire as a Redskin.” After that, he joined the Vikings in 2022, and once again asserted, “I want to retire a Viking.”
So, this time, when once again he claimed, “I want to retire a Falcon,” fans found his comments hilarious, accusing the QB of lacking sincerity.
Some fans mocked him, claiming he just wants to get retired from the NFL.
“Guy just wants to retire.”
Another fan tweeted, “I simply want to retire. I don’t care where.”
Some fans also came to defend Cousins, emphasizing that he was loyal to each team he joined but those teams couldn’t offer him long-term deals.
“He did want to. The other teams kept stringing him along and not giving him long-term deals like the Falcons did to end his career.”
It is true, considering the Falcons have finally offered him a stable quarterback position that he couldn’t get earlier. He played only six seasons with the Redskins and Vikings, where he also suffered a serious injury. But with the Falcons, he has a stable four years to enjoy his quarterback position.
New weapon for Kirk Cousins to help Falcons
Less than 24 hours after Kirk Cousins joined the Atlanta Falcons, the team announced a trade, sending QB Desmond Ridder to the Arizona Cardinals.
Ridder was their previously intended franchise quarterback following Matt Ryan’s departure but he struggled to find consistency. He played four games in his rookie season, passing for 708 yards. In exchange for Desmond Ridder, the Falcons acquired Rondale Moore.
Moore, the wide receiver, will be the new weapon for Kirk Cousins to help the Falcons in the upcoming season. In three seasons since his draft by Arizona in 2021, he has caught 135 passes for 1,201 yards.
Along with Cousins, he is expected to improve the performance of the team. The Falcons have worked hard on their roster this offseason. Besides signing Cousins and his new weapon, Moore, the team’s offense includes RB Bijan Robinson, WR1 Drake London, WR2 Darnell Mooney, and TE Kyle Pitts.
With these new changes, the Atlanta Falcons are expected to become one of the most highly competitive teams in the 2024 season.
