Kevin Durant is one of the finest scorers in the history of the NBA. He is a master of the midrange jump shot and a versatile player all the same. KD’s time with the Dubs is one to go down in history.
Durant has won two NBA championships, an NBA MVP Award, two Finals MVP Awards, an NBA Rookie of the season, and two Olympic Gold medals. His resume is indeed very impressive, and Durant feels that he is worthy of the Golden State Warriors honoring and celebrating him with a special jersey retirement gesture.
Kevin Durant wishes Warriors to retire his jersey number
Kevin Durant played an important role in the Warriors’ consecutive championship victories in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Kevin Durant has averaged 25.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.4 assists in 208 games for the Golden State Warriors in his career.
Durant believes that he had made a significant impact as a Warrior and now deserves his jersey to be retired. Warriors co-executive chairman and CEO Joe Lacob thinks so as well.
On Lacob and the Dubs potentially retiring his jersey, Durant said, “He should. Look at the résumé. That would warrant me to get a jersey retirement, right? Do I want to be honored by a franchise I put work in for? Of course, I would love that. I had some great moments there. I built some solid relationships there. Yeah, man. Hell yeah, that would be sweet. I love that organization, man. I love my time there, seriously. Me leaving, people shouldn’t doubt that, because I left there.”
Lacob has promised that no one would wear Durant’s Number 35 on the Warriors as long as he is in charge, hinting at a possible Jersey retirement. It may happen, although not until after Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green see their numbers up in the rafters.
Kevin Durant spoke about his time with the Warriors saying, “It is hard for me to compare anything to that era,” he said, per Marc J. Spears of Andscape.
“There is nothing for me to compare that to, whether we win or not. It’s different situations. All of that has helped me to step into this situation knowing what to maybe to expect or know what is coming as a veteran.”
