Doc Rivers is a former NBA All-Star who was recently appointed as the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks and was named one of the 15 greatest coaches in NBA history in the selection of the NBA’s 75th anniversary team.
Doc’s ties with politics are infamous in the NBA and fans have generally shown hatred towards the Bucks coach whenever any news of him being involved with politics surfaces online. One such news made the NBA fans attack Doc again, as this time he met President Joe Biden himself.
Doc Rivers and President Biden met privately
President Joe Biden recently met privately with the co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, Wes Edens, and the head coach, Doc Rivers, according to three people familiar with the previously unreported meeting but not authorized to speak about it publicly.
Rivers previously endorsed Biden during the 2020 campaign in a video with Steve Kerr, the current head coach of the Golden State Warriors, that was produced by the anti-Trump group, The Lincoln Project.
During the same campaign, Biden said, “Doc Rivers, the basketball coach, choking back tears when he said, ‘We’re the ones getting killed. We’re the ones getting shot. We’ve been hung. It’s amazing how we keep loving this country, and this country does not love us back.’ I think about that. I think about what it takes for a black person to love America. That is a deep love for this country that has, for far too long, never been recognized.”
Doc Rivers has always defended his ties with politics. He said, “These are human rights issues that we are fighting for. Every American should want social justice for all, regardless of race, gender, or political beliefs.” However, fans continue to troll Doc for his political affiliations.
NBA fans ridicule President Biden’s private Doc Rivers meeting
The news of the two meetings quickly went viral on social media and sparked a meme-fest, as the fans were not happy with the news and were quick to ridicule both President Biden and Doc Rivers on social media.
Most of the tweets that ridiculed the two were about how both President Biden and Coach Rivers are very old for the jobs they have and they might have issues that could lead them two work inefficiently in their jobs.
Doc Rivers might be trying to get involved a little bit more with politics, as he has a personality that definitely influences a lot of voters. Who knows if he himself wants to be a politician someday. But for now, he has to focus on his team, as the playoffs are coming soon.
