On Friday, July 7th, the super long wait to watch Victor Wembanyama in action on an NBA court will hopefully come to an end. The previous two days have marked Wembanyama’s first opportunity to play basketball as he has become accustomed to life with the Spurs in the weeks since being selected 1st overall in the 2023 NBA Draft.
‘Wemby’ was able to make an impression on the floor on Thursday when the San Antonio Spurs summer league workouts got underway.
Victor Wembanyama plans to make his summer league debut vs Hornets
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Victor Wembanyama will make his Summer League debut in “Sin City” Vegas against the Charlotte Hornets after revealing last month that he did intend to participate. “The Spurs’ current plan is indeed for Victor Wembanyama to make his San Antonio debut Friday night in Las Vegas against Charlotte.”

The 2nd overall selection in the NBA Draft of 2023 is Brandon Miller and he will be the opponent in this high-profile contest. Many eyes would be on that game as spectators excitedly anticipate seeing the 7’5” sensation play.
It appears that Victor Wembanyama has decided not to participate in the California Classic in Sacramento, where, incidentally, the San Antonio Spurs did face the Hornets. When Miller gets the chance to face off against the French whiz in this second game, he will be aiming to redeem himself after struggling in the first one.
Lakers official Summer League 2023 Roster
There are a few active participants on the Lakers Summer League roster. Max Christie stands out as one of the names. This season, the one-time second-round selection played in 41 games for LA, with 1.8 rebounds and averaged an impressive 3.1 points. Scotty Pippen Jr. is the other outstanding player on the LA Lakers roster. He is the oldest child of Bulls legend Scottie ‘No Tippin’ Pippen.
Although Scotty hasn’t played much at the NBA level, he has excelled in the G-League. With 5.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game he averaged 21.4 points, in 19 games this season. He still has plenty of time to seize his chance and make it as big as his Virtuoso father as he is just at the age of 22. Pippen will put on the Lakers’ Summer League colors for the second successive year.
The rookie guard was able to put together some strong performances on both sides of the court last season. Both of the Lakers’ draft picks from 2023 will likely be on the roster for the Summer League of that squad.
After selecting Jalen Hood-Schifino at No. 17, the franchise traded Maxwell Lewis to the Indiana Pacers for the No. 40 pick. Cole Swider, a two-way player, will travel to Summer League with the two draft picks.
In the seven games he played this season at the NBA level, and with 1.0 rebounds, he averaged 1.3 points. All things considered, the NBA Summer League offers an exciting stage for outstanding players like Victor Wembanyama, Brandon Miller, Scotty Pippen Jr., Jalen Hood-Schifino, and Cole Swider to showcase their skills and leave their mark on the league.
