Five-time All-Star Donovan Mitchell is currently in a three-year, $150.3 million extension, solidifying his elite status within the Cleveland Cavaliers. He has the potential to finish as the team’s leading scorer because of his impressive scoring skills. According to Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes, Mitchell will become the team’s primary offensive weapon in the 2024–25 season due to his consistent scoring.
The Cavaliers’ offense may undergo some modifications next season under the direction of new head coach Kenny Atkinson. However, one thing that may stay the same is Donovan Mitchell, who will be the team’s top scorer. It wouldn’t be surprising, as fans often compare him to NBA legends.
As Sports Illustrated transcribed, he said, “If Donovan Mitchell doesn’t lead the Cleveland Cavaliers in scoring, it’ll mean something extreme happened during the 2024-25 season.”
While comparing Mitchell’s performance with others, he noted, “Only 12 other players have averaged at least 20.0 points per game every season since Mitchell debuted in 2017-18, and the five-time All-Star hasn’t averaged fewer than 25.0 points per game since his 2019-20 season with the Utah Jazz. Barring the unforeseen, Mitchell will remain firmly entrenched as the Cavaliers’ chief supplier of buckets.”
Hughes also stated that if circumstances change during the season with Donovan, Darius Garland or Evan Mobley may take over as the Cavaliers’ top scorer.
Donovan Mitchell celebrates two years with Cavaliers
