Ben Simmons is one of the most polarizing players in the NBA. When he first entered the league, he garnered a lot of hype and was considered a potential superstar, but as time passed, much of that hype diminished. Despite being a point guard, Simmons’ most significant weakness is his shooting ability.
One can literally count the number of three-point shots he has made in his entire career on one hand. Nevertheless, he has a dedicated fan base who continues to support him. In fact, one such fan made an appearance at the Brooklyn Nets’ preseason game.
Ben Simmons impresses in Nets’ preseason game
Ben Simmons played well in the preseason game between the Brooklyn Nets and Maccabi Ra’anana at Barclays Center. He had 9 assists and had a brilliant steal and dunk early in the first quarter.
“I feel good and each day I’m getting better,’’ Simmons said after scoring six points and grabbing six rebounds in 21:55. “I’m trying to get some rhythm with this team, just play the game and read everything that’s going on.”
“As he continues to stack days and games together, then his instinctive nature comes out,’’ coach Jacque Vaughn said. In the Nets’ preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers, Simmons performed even better than before. He scored 10 points but fans were not very impressed with his fast break dunk in the second quarter.
One fan pointed out that his fast break dunk was basic. “There is no way you just posted the most basic dunk I have ever seen,” said the fan. Another fan said, “It’s preseason folks, let’s see what he can do in the regular 82 eighty-two game season, where he HAS 2 play 82 games, which is a lot of games for a pro.”
The game in which Simmons really shined was the one against the Philadelphia 76ers. Simmons scored 8 points and had 9 assists and 6 rebounds. He made smooth and beautiful behind the back passes. This time it seemed like the audience was finally impressed by him.However, the Ben Simmons hatred is still not over. Basketball fans often find reasons for roasting and hating on him. The three time NBA All Star gets to hear a lot of harsh criticisms from fans as well as the NBA reporters. Many feel that Simmons lacks motivation and aggression.
Simmons reacts to extreme fan dedication
Fans expressing their love for their favorite athletes are one of the most beautiful moments in sports. Ben Simmons recently found one of his biggest fans just a few moments before the Monday preseason matchup between the Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers.
The fan showed Ben Simmons that he had a tattoo of Simmons on his chest and politely asked Ben whether he could have his shirt. Ben was shocked to see such a dedicated fan and happily handed him the shirt.
