The 2025 NFL Draft is set to start on Thursday, April 24, and will run through Saturday, April 26. Though there is still a lot of time before it begins, the New York Jets are already preparing and have made a bold proposal to land Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.
Travis Hunter is one of the top prospects for the 2025 draft because of his talent as both a wide receiver and a cornerback. Many teams are looking to add him to their roster, but unlike them, the Jets are playing it smart with their strategy.
Reports say the Jets are working on a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars to move up from the 7th pick to the 5th pick. This trade could involve sending their 7th pick and other draft assets to secure Hunter.

Despite a rough 2024, the Jets went 7-10 in 2022 and 2023 with weak QB play. Justin Fields is a major upgrade. If the deal happens, it could be a game-changer for the Jets, adding a versatile playmaker who can shine on both offense and defense.
More precisely, he could either be part of a top cornerback duo alongside players like Sauce Gardner, or he could pair up as a wide receiver with Garrett Wilson, creating a powerful offensive threat.
Travis Hunter shows gratitude for Urban Meyer’s high praise
Travis Hunter, the standout two-way player from Colorado, recently shared his gratitude for the praise he received from legendary coach Urban Meyer. In an interview, Meyer praised Hunter’s versatility, stamina, and football IQ, saying, “It’d be hard for me not to take Travis Hunter with the first pick.”
He added, “I think he is a once-in-a-generation, once-in-a-lifetime player. He can do things I’ve not seen people do. His stamina, the quality of the kid I’ve done some homework on him. We’ve covered him a few times.”
\The 21-year-old responded humbly, saying, “I appreciate that. I wish you did have first pick so you could come pick me up. I would love to be coached by you. This just goes to show that at least believes in me.”
