After the NFL GOAT and Tampa Bay Buccaneers legendary quarterback Tom Brady retired from the league following an illustrious career with multiple titles and accolades, a generic question arises about the next best quarterback in the league.
With two Lombardi trophies in the last four seasons and phenomenal performance, the Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is currently ahead of the other QBs, however, a popular analyst said only the Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson holds the chance to beat Mahomes in the run of being the best in the position.
Comparison between Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes
Arguably, the Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow and the Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen are in the competition with the Chiefs QB to take over Brady’s place, albeit Fox Sports 1 analyst and former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho said only the Ravens QB can dethrone Pats this season while drawing comparison Allen and Lamar, ignoring Burrow.
“You need to have equity to do it. Even if Josh Allen were to come out and have the best season possible, he would only have one MVP, one Super Bowl MVP, and one Super Bowl. Lamar Jackson has already proven himself to be a unanimous league MVP, something that even Mahomes hasn’t done.”
Patrick pulled Kansas City who only had 3 playoff wins for 45 years and brought them their first Super Bowl in 2020 after half of a century. Similarly, the Ravens have been 40-17 since 2019 but they dropped down to 4-9 in the absence of the QB.
The Baltimore quarterback recorded 12,209 passing yards, 4,437 rushing yards, and 125 total touchdowns along with one MVP throughout his five-years tenure and the Kansas City QB recorded 24,241 passing yards, 1,547 rushing yards, and 204 combined touchdowns alongside two MVP titles and two Super Bowl rings throughout six years.
Lamar played fewer games and had been battling with injuries constantly, hence, Acho thinks the veteran QB might take over Mahomes place to emulate as the best one.
“So if he has a dream season, two regular-season MVPs, then a Super Bowl and a Super Bowl MVP, he would still be shy of a Super Bowl and the Super Bowl MVP, but at least an argument can be had.”
Is Joe Burrow closer to Mahomes’ level than Lamar Jackson?
Despite holding an MVP and a proven track record of winning, many fans and Pundits believe Jackson stands behind in the race of being the best QB due to his reliability and arm. A quarterback is the most important player for a team and if he can’t stay on the field, the past records may become a mere thing sometimes.
The Bengals star Burrow stepped in the way to compete with Mahomes in the race of the playoffs and also he has been in the Super Bowl whereas Jackson has not.
Lamar’s leg strength is undoubtedly on the top, however, Joe’s arm strength also deserves louder cheers, and the fact that arms still trump legs at the quarterback position keeps the Cincy QB at a higher position than the Baltimore QB.
A new season is approaching and the NFL fans are waiting eagerly to see how the top quarterbacks will continue to shape the league and captivate fans with their extraordinary performances, albeit the debate regarding the best quarterback will continue to hit the headlines in the time ahead.
