Kristian Fulton tested the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career. The NFL free agency can become increasingly difficult for players if they don’t find the right team at the right time.
However, for Fulton, the process has been easier, as reportedly he has already found a new home after playing four seasons with the Titans.
Chargers signs Kristian Fulton to a 1-year deal
NFL veteran cornerback Kristian Fulton has signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Chargers. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Chargers have made a key secondary addition by signing Fulton on a one-year deal. The deal also has the possibility of becoming worth more next year.
Kristian Fulton was flown to LA on Wednesday and will stay put as part of head coach Jim Harbaugh’s new-look band of Bolts. Fulton began his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans in 2020. He was a second-round selection by the Titans, and before that, he played college football with the LSU Tigers.
In college, he became famous for his exceptional football prowess and was known as a standout cornerback as he helped the Tigers win the 2019 national championship.
However, his performance in the 2023 season wasn’t that exceptional. Despite his struggles, the CB is expected to slide into a starting spot opposite Asante Samuel Jr. with the Chargers.
How did Kristian Fulton do in the 2023–2024 campaign?
Kristian Fulton couldn’t perform well in the 2023 season as the injuries plagued him during the entire season. The CB only started in 11 games as his 2022 hamstring injury came back and he had to miss his final five games of the season as well.
Fulton garnered a career-low 46.4 overall PFF grade. He had 46 tackles, no interceptions, and five passes defensed. But still, he has the potential considering his young age and past achievements.
Throughout four seasons with his former team, the CB made 37 starts in 42 games, recording 150 tackles, four interceptions, and 25 pass breakups. His best career season was in 2021, where he accrued 14 pass deflections and a career-high two interceptions.
Kristian Fulton’s 14 pass deflections tied him for the 12th most among NFL defensive backs. In 2022, he suffered a hamstring injury, causing him to miss games, and his performance was negatively affected. The same injury also plagued him in 2023, leading to him being benched.
Although Kristian Fulton’s performance declined in the 2023 season, he is considered a great talent and will be a valuable addition to the Chargers’ roster.
