In a move to bolster their already potent offense, the Kansas City Chiefs made a huge splash by selecting the standout wide receiver Rashee Rice in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, aiming to provide their quarterback Patrick Mahomes with yet another troop to help him lead the team to Super Bowl glory once again.
The Chiefs also picked Oklahoma offensive tackle Wanya Morris with their 92nd overall in the third round and Kansas State pass rusher Felix Anudike-Uzomah with the 31st overall pick.
Patrick Mahomes will join hands with Rashee Rice to bolster the Cheifs’ offense
The Chiefs traded up eight spots to select SMU WR Rashee Rice with the 55th overall pick in the second of the 2023 NFL Draft Friday, adding a versatile talent to a rebuilt group of wide receivers after losing veteran players JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman in free agency.
Mahomes spent some time throwing passes to several prospects at his training base during the pre-draft process, and Rashee was one of the lucky players, hence, the young star stated his excitement to reunite with the Chiefs legendary QB after getting drafted by the franchise.
“I actually ran a couple of routes with Pat, did a couple of training sessions with him. He actually called me while coach was on the phone. I’m going to call him back. I’m real excited about that,” Rice said after the big news.
The 6-foot-1, 204-pound gushed about Mahomes saying the MVP ignited his confidence to give his best on the field.
“He made me feel like I was running the best routes in the world, putting it exactly where it needed to be.”
The Texas native amassed 233 catches, 3,111 yards, and 25 touchdowns throughout his four-year career at SMU and led the FBS in yards per game, setting the school single-season receiving record.
The 23-year-old finished as one of only three FBS receivers to record 1,300 receiving yards in 2022.
The Chiefs are certainly a team to watch, and the addition of Rice only adds to their already impressive roster. With Rice on board, the team’s offense looks poised to be one of the most explosive in the league, and fans will definitely be excited to see what this new offensive lineup will do in the upcoming season.
