Travis Kelce is one of the most famous tight ends in the NFL, especially in the 2023 season. The TE gained more popularity because of his high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift.
This surge in his popularity has also helped Travis win various accolades including the 2023 Players’ All-Pro first-team selection. Despite this achievement, the fan response to his ranking was notably harsh.
Fans rage over Travis Kelce’s inclusion in players’ All-Pro team
The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) unveiled its 2023 Players’ All-Pro First Team, a list determined by player votes to recognize the best players at each position.
Travis Kelce, the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, was surprisingly chosen by fellow players as the best tight end in the NFL for the 2023 season.
Fans expressed shock as Kelce’s selection meant he was preferred over other notable tight ends like rookie Sam LaPorta.
Travis Kelce, despite having a statistically down year compared to his standards, gained significant attention for being voted the top tight end despite not reaching 1,000 receiving yards for the first time since 2015.
Kelce’s statistical rankings among fellow tight ends were low, finishing second in receiving yards, third in receptions, and seventh in touchdowns. Fans questioned if this performance justified being named the best in the league.
“Kelce All-Pro, throw the list out.,” one fan wrote.
“Travis Kelce is absurd.”
“Travis Kelce over LaPorta??”
Fans were dissatisfied with Travis’ First-Team All-Pro selection. Many argued that players like Sam LaPorta, who had standout performances, should have been chosen instead.
Travis Kelce’s season by numbers compared to Sam LaPorta
During the 2023 NFL season, Travis Kelce participated in 15 games, registering 93 receptions for 984 yards and scoring five touchdowns. The TE wasn’t able to achieve his usual 1,000-yard record, which he had maintained since 2015 and some people believe it happened because of his relationship with Taylor Swift.
On the other hand, Sam LaPorta had more impressive stats. The rookie TE secured 86 receptions for 889 yards. He played in 17 games and made 10 touchdowns. Travis Kelce ranked third and LaPorta secured the top spot in terms of fantasy football performance.
Sam LaPorta had higher stats this season than Kelce; therefore, fans believe LaPorta deserved the best TE selection. However, the voting favored the Travis.
Although Travis Kelce is considered one of the best tight ends in the league, this season Sam LaPorta showed a more impressive performance, and maybe he was more deserving of this title.
