Following the memorable victory due to the controversial tuck rule, the NFL GOAT Tom Brady and his former team, the New England Patriots, started a winning era and never had to look back as the franchise continued its successful mission by winning six Super Bowl titles over the next two decades from 2001 to 2018.
Undoubtedly, Brady was the favorite Pupil of the Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick, albeit, after Tom left New England and joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, rumors had been speculating that the former Patriots QB might not be sharing the incredible bond like before.
However, the 45-year-old after his retirement became quite vocal about his football career, and while referring back to the Patriot days TB12 poured cold water on the rumors of not maintaining adequate relations with Bill, sharing some heavy words for his former coach.
Tom Brady opens up on his relationship with Bill Belichick
The seven-time Super Bowl champion, Tom Brady spent the first 20 years of his career in New England before going for the Bucs, and under the guidance of Belichick, he led the franchise to a phenomenally successful period with multiple accolades including 17 AFC East titles, nine AFC titles, and six Super Bowl victories throughout the long tenure.
During a recent interview with ESPN, the retired veteran QB shared the backstory of their incredible records saying the Patriots HC had trust in his caliber to glorify on the field.
“He very much trusted what I was out there doing in the field, and it went both ways. Ultimately our success was because so many people in the organization, as coach Belichick always said, ‘do your job,’ and I did as quarterback and leader.”
The three-time MVP decided to bid adieu to his illustrious career in February this year and holds no intention to make a U-turn, however, he could not forget the relationship he shared with the Patriots veteran coach.
“Were there times where you know it wasn’t always eye to eye? Very few and far between, actually. I still envision our relationship as positive and always will.”
Did Bill Belichick send congrats to Tom after Bucs’ Super Bowl win?
After Tom decided to be a Bucs member, fans were assuming the bond between him and Belichick would fall apart. The prediction got stronger when the former New England QB posted around 100 photos from across his career after announcing his retirement decision for the second time and none of them featured his former HC.
However, Bill had high praises for the retired NFL icon during a recent appearance in Let’s Go! Podcast back in February when he said coaching TB12 was an ultimate honor for him.
“The greatest player, the greatest career. A great, great person. It was such an opportunity and an honor for me to coach Tom. I guess it’s gotta end at some point. But it’s the greatest one ever. So, congratulations, Tom.”
The Patriots fell apart without their long-time quarterback and the Bucs grabbed their long-cherished Lombardi trophy in the first season with Brady, hence, fans and pundits were thinking if Brady’s former HC congratulated him over the win.
The undisputed GOAT decided to put an end to the rumor saying, Bill “Was one of the first people to text me after we won the Super Bowl in Tampa”.
With TB12’s candid remark on his friendship with Belichick, the NFL world can finally put to rest the speculations about the tension between these two great figures.
