The 2023 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and as with any draft, speculation and rumors abound. One team that has generated a lot of discussion in recent weeks is the Houston Texans, who hold the second overall pick. While many believe that they will select a quarterback, one NFL insider has dropped a shocking hint that suggests the team may have other plans in mind.
There are several promising prospects available, such as CJ Stroud from Ohio State and Bryce Young from Alabama. But there are also other potential options like Will Levis from Kentucky and Anthony Richardson from Florida.
However, not everyone is convinced that the Texans are committed to taking a quarterback with their first-round pick. ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggested on NFL Live that there is conflicting information about Houston’s intentions and that the team may not necessarily go for a quarterback.
Insider Adam Schefter weighs in on potential draft picks for Houston Texans
Schefter went on to explain that he sees Bryce Young as the top quarterback, likely to be chosen by the Carolina Panthers with the first overall pick. This could leave the Texans with the option of trading their pick to a team looking to snag a quarterback at number two, or taking a different approach altogether, such as selecting a top defensive player.
“I think there’s a lot of conflicting signals and information out there about what Houston is going to do at two. I think a lot of people assumed that it’s just going to be a quarterback, and in the end, I’m just not convinced, just yet, that that is going to be the case.”
He added, “I do think that we have Bryce Young slated to be the favorite, number one to Carolina. Then Houston’s on the clock, and what does Houston do?”
"I don't think it's a lock that Houston is going QB at 2"

Texans Face Decisions Ahead of NFL Draft: To Draft a Quarterback or Explore Other Options?
With the NFL Draft just around the corner, it remains to be seen what the Houston Texans will do with their second overall pick. While many assume that they will select a quarterback, NFL insider Adam Schefter has suggested that there may be other options on the table.
He also added, “It becomes interesting if Houston decided to auction off that pick to somebody that wants to come up and trade for a quarterback at number two. Or, whether Houston wants to go with a quarterback of its own, or whether Houston wants to go with one of the top defensive players. All I’m saying is I don’t think it’s a clock that Houston is going quarterback at number two.”
Once again, the Houston Texans will be commencing a fresh NFL season with a recently appointed head coach, making it the fourth consecutive year for them. After a disappointing 3-13-1 record last season, Lovie Smith was relieved of his duties and replaced by DeMeco Ryans, who is new to the head coaching position in the NFL.
In the upcoming weeks, the new Texans head coach will have a lot to weigh up, whether to select a quarterback in the draft, trade their pick, or prioritize other areas of need. Whatever decision they make, it’s evident that they have plenty to contemplate.
Whatever they decide, it’s sure to have a significant impact on the team’s future, and fans will be eagerly waiting to see how it all unfolds.
