NFL Rumors: Commander trade former No. 2 pick DE Chase Young to 49ers

The NFL trade deadline has come and gone, and the Commanders have indeed made significant changes to their roster. Contrary to widespread expectations, Chase Young’s fate has taken an unexpected turn. Earlier, reports were suggesting that the Chicago Bears were keen on adding Chase Young to their roster, and it seemed like a plausible move.

However, the Commanders have followed a different path, and Chase Young has indeed been traded, albeit not to the Bears but to another NFL team.

Commanders trade Chase Young to 49ers

Instead of trading Chase Young to the Bears, the Commanders have traded him to the 49ers. In return, the team will get a 2024 third-round pick.

This sudden trade move is quite shocking, but GM John Lynch must have a strategic plan behind it. This is the second year in a row that the GM has made such a big trade move before the NFL trade deadline.

Last year, they acquired running back Christian McCaffrey, which has proven beneficial for the team. The DE’s trade move can also be a great step for the team’s success.

The 49ers are excited about the addition of Chase Young to their defensive lineup. Young, along with Nick Bosa (the 2019 No. 2 overall pick), will strengthen the 49ers’ defensive front. Young and Nick Bosa were former teammates at Ohio State, and now they are reunited on the 49ers’ defensive line.

But, by trading their talented DE, the Commanders have experienced a significant loss in their defensive front, which was previously considered a strong point of the team. Earlier on the same day, they also traded Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears for a second-round draft pick.

Chase Young’s career stats for Commanders

Chase Young was drafted by the Washington Commanders in 2020. He was the No. 2 overall pick and had an exceptional start with the team. In 2021, he suffered a knee injury, because of which his performance was negatively affected.

He has played a total of 34 games with the Washington Commanders in his career, recording 81 total tackles, 53 solo tackles, and 28 assists. Young has gained a total of 8 touchdowns, with 4 coming from interceptions and the rest from other plays.

The DE recorded six tackles, nine quarterback hits, and 5.0 sacks during the seven games he played with the Commanders this year.

Given his incredible stats and high career performances, Young is considered an exceptional addition to the 49ers’ roster but for the Commanders, this trade is a loss of a good player. What do you think of this trade? Make sure to tell us in the comments.
