Jacksonville Jaguars began their practice session on Friday, showing a strong sense of determination this season. In order to properly direct the players, head coach Doug Pederson was also in the background. During the first practice, he made a hint about holding joint training camp practices with the Lions.
The Lions and the Jaguars are two of only four teams without a Super Bowl appearance or victory in their histories, but this season both teams appeared to be extra determined as the Lions had eight picks and the Jaguars had 13 total selections in the 2023 NFL Draft, two of which were their own picks and the rest were acquired through trade.
A rookie mini-camp between the Jaguars and the Lions is going to be held very soon
Although the two teams don’t have any scheduled games against one another in the 2023 season, the Jaguars and Lions will practice together prior to a preseason game on Friday, according to the head coach of the Jaguars.
Given that they will be enjoying a few days collaborating with each other in getting ready for training camp, it is a fantastic opportunity for both teams to meet each other’s rookie players and get to know their unique playing abilities firsthand.
Prior to the final game of the regular season, Peterson already took the initiative to get his team ready. The HC claims that it is advantageous for them to be acquainted with the circumstances and pressure of playing in the NFL and to have a better understanding of team commitment.
“To put our eyes on them for meaningful purposes, to see what they know, take it to the classroom and then just be able to watch them just move around and kind of begin the process how are they going to fit with our team,” HC said.
Eight meetings between the two teams resulted in three victories each for the Detroit Lions and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The two teams last faced off on December 5, 2022, with the Lions defeating the Jaguars 40-14. Yet, the Jacksonville team had a great season in 2022 with a 9-8 record at the end of the season, going 5-3 at home and 4-5 away from home.
Both teams are superbly adapted for survival, and the 2023 season will show how each one establishes itself and becomes a Super Bowl contender for this year.
