In the fast-paced world of the NFL, teams are constantly looking to improve their rosters. One of the ways to do that is by signing new players, and that’s exactly what the Cleveland Browns did recently. The Browns made headlines by signing Pro Bowl linebacker Za’Darius Smith from the Minnesota Vikings after he requested to be released. This move has generated a lot of buzz among fans and analysts alike, and it’s not hard to see why
After two months of uncertainty, the Minnesota Vikings and Za’Darius have agreed to end their association. According to sources, the Cleveland Browns acquired Za’Darius via a trade with the Vikings.
As part of the trade, the Browns will receive Smith along with two future draft picks, while they will send two future fifth-round picks to the Vikings. He has also restructured his contract and will be guaranteed $11.75 million in 2023, after which he will become a free agent in 2024.
Smith will join Myles Garrett as the Browns’ edge-rushing tandem, replacing the inconsistent Jadeveon Clowney, who failed to live up to expectations in his two seasons with Cleveland.
In his previous season with the Vikings, he recorded impressive numbers, including 10 sacks, 44 tackles (15 for loss), five passes defended, and one forced fumble. He will bring his experience in playing in the AFC North, having played with the Ravens from 2015-2018.
Za’Darius Smith Joins Cleveland Browns in Bold Trade Move
The Browns have been struggling to find a quality starting rusher opposite Garrett, and Smith’s arrival will help to fill this void. If he can replicate his performance from the previous season, Cleveland’s defense should improve considerably, addressing a position that was considered a weakness earlier in the season.
This trade is a significant move for the Browns as they prepare for the upcoming season. Smith’s impressive track record and Pro Bowl pedigree make him an exciting addition to the Browns’ already talented defense.
However, we shall probably have to wait to see whether this trade pays off for the Browns in the long run. If Smith can continue to perform at a high level, he could be the missing piece that helps the Browns make a deep playoff run in the coming seasons.
