NFL trade: Lions looking for another CB after Cam Sutton dismissal for public arrest warrant

All the NFL teams are busy working on their rosters before the 2024 season begins but for the Detroit Lions, the process has become more difficult. The team signed two talented cornerbacks at the start of free agency.

However, recent reports indicate they will be on the lookout for a third, and their key player has been released recently.

Lions are in search of a CB

The Detroit Lions released their star CB, Cam Sutton, on Wednesday. Now, the team needs to add a new talent in the CB department to fill the void created by his release.

It was reported recently that the Lions are already looking to add another cornerback.

Considering many teams have already signed talented CBs, it might be difficult for the team to find a third cornerback for the upcoming season. L’Jarius Sneed was one of the talented CBs in this free agency, but he is expected to sign with the Titans. If that deal doesn’t work out, the Lions can sign him.

Another option could be Marshon Lattimore. The CB still has three years left on his contract with the New Orleans Saints, but the team has left open the possibility of trading him. So, the team can take advantage of it.

There are many other options available if the Lions want to sign a third cornerback to fill the void created by the sudden release of Cam Sutton.

Why did Lions release Cam Sutton?

The Lions released Cam Sutton suddenly because a few days back the CB was declared wanted by police. The cops reported that the duties responded to a home in Lutz around 5 a.m. after an argument between Sutton and a woman became physical.

The woman reported the assault as she had bruises on her head, neck, and upper body. The police couldn’t reach out to Cam Sutton and declared him wanted by publicly posting a number to report about the CB.

He is charged with domestic battery by strangulation. At that time the Lions released a statement claiming they are monitoring the situation.

“We became aware of the ongoing legal situation involving Cam Sutton this morning. We will continue to monitor the situation and will not have further comment at this time.”

Later, it was revealed that, at the time the warrant was publicized, Cam Sutton was at the team’s facility. Team president Rod Wood said that the officials spoke directly with Sutton and even advised him to begin seeking legal counsel.

On March 20, the former CB was wanted for aggravated battery but he has not been arrested yet. The Lions released him the following day.

Cam Sutton had signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Lions ahead of the 2023 season. He started all 17 games for the team and finished with 65 tackles, one interception, and six pass breakups.

Despite his talents and accomplishments, his career with the Lions has been cut short because of this recent case. The investigation of the case is continuing and hopefully, the right party will get justice soon.
