The Chiefs were recently honored with a ring ceremony, albeit defensive tackle leader Chris Jones wasn’t in attendance, directing attention at an uphill battle for the player as he also skipped the Chiefs’ required minicamp.
Following a stellar season, Jones is entering the final year of his contract and is under contract for $20 million in cash this year and a $28.29 million 2023 cap hit, making it necessary for his extension to take effect before the start of the season.
Although the general manager of the team claimed that there are good vibes surrounding Jones’ extension during the ring ceremony, the Chiefs fans did not accept his claim and believed that it did not represent a genuine exchange of information.
Chiefs fans don’t trust Brett Veach’s Jones contract update
After prevailing his second Super Bowl ring with the team, the defensive lineman already made it known that he intends to play his entire career as a Chief, however, the team’s front office doesn’t seem particularly eager to keep him on the roster, according to Chiefs supporters. As a result of the player’s absence from the ring ceremony, Brett Veach confronted the media with questions about the status of his deal, to which the manager responded favorably.
“We have great communication and there’s a lot of time before camp. I feel good about where we’re going to be with Chris,” Veach said. “I’m sure we’ll have great dialogue from now to the start of training camp, and look forward to Chris being here, not just for next year but for a long time.”
Fans, however, did not accept his citation favorably; instead, they attacked the general manager on social media, alleging that he had previously duped them by spreading untrue information.
I don't trust a word he says. LOL he has lied to our faces before

Additionally, despite Brett’s claim that the process is headed toward a positive conclusion, the 28-year-old‘s mental state was discovered by the fans to be not good because he was unable to attend the golden ceremony.
He didn’t show up so can’t be too great

Most intriguingly, one Kansas City fan created a false Twitter account naming Adam Schefter claiming the team had agreed to a four-year contract extension worth up to $96.7 million, possibly dropping an indication to the Chief’s front office, also showing how eager they are to see a contract extension for Jones.
Chiefs DT Chris Jones’ performance in Super Bowl LVII
With his outstanding performance in the team’s 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, the Chiefs defensive tackle is poised to put the Eagles’ NFL-best offensive line to the test as the most unstoppable man in football recorded three tackles on the match.
Chris was a key factor in the Chiefs’ sudden improvement from one of the worst teams in the league at rushing the passer last season to one of the best this season, and he proved his worth to the world in Kansas City’s AFC Championship and Super Bowl victories.
“To us, he’s the Defensive Player of the Year because of what he does for us,” the Chiefs defensive coordinator Stephen Christopher Spagnuolo said about the player. “He’s certainly our most valuable defensive player. I wish we had, like, 11 of him. It’d make my job a lot easier.”
The Ravens also ignored the possibility of a contract extension with their seasoned quarterback Lamar Jackson, as the NFL community saw, but they later recognized the value of the possibility of the deal materializing. Now, the football world stands by to see if the veteran DL and the team’s front office encounter similar circumstances.
