According to Anthony Rizzuti of USA Today‘s Panthers Wire, the 28-year-old Grugier-Hill is expected to provide depth to Carolina’s linebacking corps. The Panthers’ linebacking group was weakened by the release of Damien Wilson. And also because of the loss of Cory Littleton to the Houston Texans earlier in the offseason.
NFL Free Agency: Starting a new journey for Grugier-Hill
Grugier-Hill was a product of Eastern Illinois University. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL draft by the New England Patriots. However, he was waived by the team during that summer’s final roster cuts. He then joined the Philadelphia Eagles the following day. And spent four years with the team, including a Super Bowl LII win over the Patriots. The Panthers’ head coach, Frank Reich, was the Eagles’ offensive coordinator during that championship run.
In addition to his tenure with the Patriots and Eagles, Grugier-Hill has also played for the Miami Dolphins in 2020. And with the Houston Texans from 2021 to 2022 and with the Arizona Cardinals in 2022.
With the addition of Kamu Grugier-Hill, the Carolina Panthers have taken a major step forward in addressing their linebacker position during the offseason. His experience and championship pedigree should provide a boost to the team, both on the field and in the locker room. However, only time will tell how effective Grugier-Hill will be in Carolina. And whether he can help the Panthers reach their ultimate goal of a Super Bowl victory.
