The Las Vegas Raiders tight end, Darren Waller, was traded to the New York Giants at a surprisingly low cost that raises some eyebrows.
The Giants needed to let the Raiders have a third pick in the coming NFL draft to acquire the tight end, and the two franchises appeared to be in a win-win situation, which is quite weird for the NBA community.
However, the sudden trade might be the outcome of something undesired that happened behind the scenes.
Why did Darren Waller have to leave the Raiders?
The 30-year-old recently tied the knot with WNBA star Kelsey Plum in a low-key arrangement. Even the media couldn’t get much wind of the course of their relationship over the year. But Raiders coach Josh McDaniels somehow misspoke about the wedding to the media, and the crack appeared.
Now it seems that the TE found it unpleasant for revealed personal information about himself to the media without his knowledge, which pushed him out of the franchise. The Athletics’ senior writer Vic Tafur also indicated the reason for the player’s departure.
Waller was upset with McDaniels when the Las Vegas Review-Journal posted a story announcing the wedding was scheduled later in the week. The couple had not publicly announced their plans to get married.

It’s natural to be upset when your superior make life decisions without consulting with you first. But as it happened, the newlywed couple should have stayed in Las Vegas instead of being away for a long time.
It would be unwise of him if the decision came from Waller himself, as his coach Josh was at fault here. The raiders should resolve the matter within themselves, but the reality is often disappointing and unfair.
The trade happened in the span of a few weeks after Darren got married, and there’s no statement from him yet.
