Michael Jordan, the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets is widely considered as one of, if not the best basketball player of all time. However, even a figure like him sometimes gets tangled in controversy.
“His Airness” announced his decision to sell the team and has since quit the NBA in order to deal with the fact that there will no longer be any teams in the league with a majority Black ownership.
Michael Jordan and his dismal ownership tenure of the Hornets
Michael Jordan who is also fondly known as the “Money” is a former player for the Chicago Bulls. And he is reportedly planning to sell his full ownership interest in the Charlotte Hornets. According to rumors, Jordan will sell the team to a company run by Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin.
Rick since 2015 has been a minor-league owner of the Atlanta Hawks and is reportedly currently in the process of selling his holding interest in the organization, while Gabe has really been a peripheral partner in the Hornets since 2019. Since it needs the Board of Governors of the NBA’s permission, there has been no news on how long this procedure will take.

It’s interesting to note that Jordan plans to maintain a small ownership position in the group he acquired in 2010 for about $275 million. Michael Jordan who has won more than six NBA championships and five MVP awards is an esteemed member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
He too dreadfully has not been able to help the star of the Charlotte Hornets. During his unfortunate tenure, Charlotte also had pretty consistently been one of the weakest teams in the league. Except perhaps for the name change, Jordan’s ownership of the Hornets has generally been quite uneventful.
Nick Wright slams Jordan’s GOAT status
The discussion over Jordan’s title as the GOAT has been heated. This discussion has recently taken an intriguing turn. Jordan’s GOAT label was disputed by Nick Wright, a well-known coworker of the contentious sports announcer Skip Bayless on a recent episode of The Herd.
The ongoing debate about Jordan’s legacy and the effects of his ownership tenure gains an intriguing new dimension with the addition of this criticism. Wright had an unfavorable evaluation of Michael Jordan’s ownership period.
Wright suggested that Jordan’s claim to being the best player ever would have been greatly strengthened if he had been able to establish the Charlotte Hornets as a dynasty during his 15-year ownership. Jordan’s great playing career and his lack of postseason success as a general manager and owner are two more prominent contrasts that he highlighted.
Wright emphasized that the Hornets won zero postseason series during his ownership, matching Jordan’s own postseason difficulties when Scottie Pippen wasn’t his teammate. Jordan’s legacy is purely arbitrary.
