Islam Makhachev, the UFC’s lightweight champion, has revealed that Khamzat Chimaev will not be training with Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s squad, despite the fact that the two camps healed following a fight in Abu Dhabi last week.
Russian MMA descended into civil strife at UFC 280 when Chechen fighter Chimaev confronted Khabib’s cousin Abubakar Nurmagomedov at the Etihad Arena. Shortly after that, Makhachev submitted Charles Oliveira in the second round to win the 155-pound title.
The conflict erupted after welterweights Nurmagomedov and Chimaev were seen clasping hands before the Chechen appeared to lash out at his fellow Russian.

The nasty scenes prompted a peace summit last Sunday, during which Khabib stated that everyone involved had apologized and promised to put the incident behind them.
The retired Dagestani legend even expressed that he planned to meet with Chimaev once the undefeated Chechen star had won his own UFC belt.
Despite the nice compliments, Makhachev revealed that Chimaev would not be joining his squad as the newly crowned UFC lightweight champion returned to Dagestan this week to a hero’s welcome.
“We train in different clubs. So far, there have been no plans or negotiations on joint training,” Islam Machachev stated during an interview.
However, it looks that Chimaev’s difficulties with Team Khabib have been settled, as both sides were seen and video breaking bread over dinner on Abubakar’s Instagram.
Despite the recent peace talks, the UFC lightweight champion Islam Machachev does not expect Khamzat Chimaev to join his team anytime soon.
