Many in the NBA are skeptical that Bronny James, the Lakers’ No. 55 pick, is ready to play at the professional level after observing him closely. His struggles began in the summer league and continued through preseason games.
This has raised concerns regarding whether or not there was any external pressure to pursue a professional career. His agent addressed these questions honestly.
Recently, Rich Paul, who represents both LeBron James and Bronny James, spoke about Bronny’s choice to enter the NBA. In an interview with ESPN, he recalled their earlier discussions about whether to stay in college or declare for the draft.
Paul said, “Nobody pressured Bronny to go pro. Bronny had the option to stay at USC, to transfer to another school, or to turn pro.” He also dismissed the accusations of nepotism regarding the Lakers’ decision to pick Bronny James.
“it’s handled the right way… beautiful. And if anyone can handle it, it’s him. I told Bronny, it’s admirable that you’re choosing to go through this process. You don’t have to do this.”
Bronny James just wanted to hear his name in the draft
Bronny James averaged 7 points per game, with 32.7% of his shots going in. He also got 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game over six games. These stats are nothing compared to his dad’s fame.
The no. 55 draft pick knows what he’s good at and what he needs to work on, but he’s determined to make a shift in the Pro League. Even though his agent, Rich Paul, said he might be picked in the second draft and not make the team, Bronny just wanted to hear his name called.
As ESPN noted, “Paul asked Bronny what he wanted to do. “I just want to hear my name called,” Bronny told him. “Do you care where it’s at?” Paul asked. “No,” Bronny replied.”
Given his lackluster performance, it seems unlikely that the 20-year-old will play in the main season. The media hype clearly placed Bronny alongside LeBron James, nothing else.
